How to Play Spacebar Clicker

Spacebar Clicker is a simple speed test: press the spacebar as many times as you can before time runs out. 10 seconds is the default, with 5s, 30s, 60s, and 100s tests if you want to measure burst speed or endurance.

Play Spacebar Clicker

The objective

Press as many times as you can. Beat your own CPS.

Spacebar Clicker is a single-player browser test about one motion: pressing the spacebar. Choose a test length, then press as fast and as often as you can before the countdown hits zero.

Your score is your total press count for the run, plus your average clicks-per-second (CPS) — press count divided by the test length. There is no win or lose condition, only a number to beat next time.

The game is free, runs in the browser, and does not require an account. Open play Spacebar Clicker when you want to test yourself; use this guide when you want the rules, the five test lengths, and the habits that raise your CPS.

Controls

Spacebar on desktop, tap on mobile

Every input is the same action — one press, one point. There is no aiming and no combo system, just how many genuine presses you can land.

  • Keyboard

    Spacebar

Press the spacebar repeatedly. Each full press-and-release counts as one point. Holding the key down and letting it auto-repeat does not count — you have to actually release and press again, same as every real spacebar clicker test.

  • Phone & tablet

    Tap the button

Without a physical keyboard, tap the large on-screen key as fast as you can. It behaves exactly like pressing the spacebar — same scoring, same timer.

  • Keyboard shortcut

    M to mute

Press M at any time to mute or unmute the press, countdown, and finish sounds. Your preference is remembered for next time.

The loop

Four steps, once per run

There is no learning curve — the whole game is these four steps, run after run.

  1. 1

    Pick a test length

Choose 5, 10, 30, 60, or 100 seconds. 10 seconds is the default and the most common length used to compare scores.

  2. 2

    Get ready

Rest a finger on the spacebar (or your thumb over the on-screen button on mobile). Nothing starts until your first press.

  3. 3

Press as fast as you can

Your first press starts the clock. Keep pressing — genuinely pressing, not holding — until the timer hits zero.

  4. 4

    Check your score

See your total press count and average clicks-per-second (CPS) for the run, compared against your personal best for that length.

Scoring & timing

How a Spacebar Clicker run is actually scored

The rules stay identical across every test length. Only the clock changes.

  • The objective

Press the spacebar as many times as you can before the timer runs out. Your score is the total number of presses; the run also reports your average clicks-per-second (CPS), which is presses divided by the test length.

  • What counts as a press

Every full press-and-release of the spacebar counts once. This matches every credible spacebar clicker test online and keeps the score an honest measure of how fast you can actually move your finger.

  • Holding the key down

Browsers repeat a keydown event automatically while a key is held. Spacebar Clicker ignores those auto-repeat events, so holding the key down does not rack up free points — you have to genuinely press it each time.

  • The timer

The clock starts on your very first press, not when you select a test length. When time runs out mid-press, that press still counts; nothing after it does.

Use Restart from the in-game menu to reset a run at any time. Details on local saves and resets live in the Spacebar Clicker FAQ.

Test lengths

5, 10, 30, 60, and 100 seconds

These are test lengths, not difficulty levels — the rules never change. 10 seconds is selected by default. Full details are on the test lengths page.

  1. 01 · The standard test

    10 seconds — Default

Ten seconds is the length most people mean when they say "spacebar clicker test." Long enough to find a rhythm, short enough to give everything you have. This is what you get when you press Play — no extra click required.

  2. 02 · Quick burst or paced sprint

    5 / 30 seconds

Five seconds measures pure burst speed with no time to fatigue. Thirty seconds is long enough that pacing starts to matter more than raw speed — most players see their CPS drop slightly compared to a 5 or 10 second run.

  3. 03 · Endurance tests

    60 / 100 seconds

A full minute or more turns this from a reflex test into a stamina test. Finger fatigue is the real opponent here, which is why alternating fingers matters far more than at short lengths.

Common mistakes

Why most runs score lower than they could

A slow score is usually a technique problem, not a lack of speed. These are the habits that hold most runs back.

  • Pressing before you are ready

Your first press starts the clock immediately, so a stray press while you are still getting comfortable burns a second of your run for nothing.

  • Using only one finger the whole time

A single finger fatigues fast and hits a natural speed ceiling. Alternating two fingers (or a thumb and index finger) almost always produces a higher score, especially past 10 seconds.

  • Sprinting a long test

Going all-out for the first five seconds of a 60 or 100 second run usually backfires — your hand tires and your CPS collapses in the back half. Pace longer tests instead of sprinting them.

  • Tensing your wrist

A stiff, locked wrist slows down the reset between presses. Keep it relaxed and let small, quick motions do the work instead of a full arm swing.

Technique

Tips to press faster

Treat these as habits, not shortcuts. For a deeper walkthrough, see the full tips page.

  • Use two fingers and alternate them rather than pounding with one — most fast scores come from alternation, not brute force.
  • Keep your wrist loose and hovering just above the key; tension slows your reset speed between presses.
  • On longer tests (60s, 100s), settle into a sustainable rhythm early instead of sprinting and fading.
  • Warm up with a short 5-second run before attempting your real 10s or 30s attempt.
  • Rest your palm on the desk for stability so your fingers do all the work, not your whole arm.
  • Practice the "jitter" technique — a fast, small back-and-forth wrist vibration — for short bursts, but expect it to tire quickly on longer tests.

Where you can play

Same test on phone and desktop

Spacebar Clicker runs in any modern browser. You do not install an app from a store. If two devices disagree about your best score, that is expected: progress never leaves the browser you played in.

  • Desktop browsers

Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari all run Spacebar Clicker with no plugin. A physical keyboard gives the most accurate result, since the spacebar itself is what is being tested.

  • Phones and tablets

Spacebar Clicker works on touchscreens too — tap the large on-screen key instead of a physical spacebar. Scoring and the timer work identically either way.

  • Progress on this device

Your best score and best CPS per test length, plus total lifetime presses, live in local browser storage. They stay until you reset them or clear site data, and they do not sync across devices.
