Play Spacebar ClickerAnswers for the spacebar speed test
This FAQ is the long-form reference for Spacebar Clicker: the free browser test where you press the spacebar as fast as you can. It covers how scoring and CPS work, why holding the key down does not count, how the five test lengths differ, and why progress lives on your device instead of an account.
If you want a walkthrough with rules and controls, read how to play Spacebar Clicker. For technique, see the tips page. To test yourself right now, open Spacebar Clicker.
Getting started
What Spacebar Clicker is, whether it is free, and how to start a test in your browser.
What is Spacebar Clicker?
Spacebar Clicker is a free online speed test. You press the spacebar (or tap a button on mobile) as many times as possible before a countdown timer runs out. Your score is the total number of presses and your average clicks-per-second (CPS) for the run. It is a simple, honest way to measure how fast you can press a key.
Is Spacebar Clicker free to play online?
Yes. Spacebar Clicker is completely free and runs entirely in your browser. There is nothing to buy, download, or install, and there are no ads interrupting a run.
Do I need to download or install anything?
No. Spacebar Clicker is a 100% browser-based game built with HTML and JavaScript. It loads in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, and other modern browsers on desktop and mobile without a plugin, app store listing, or installer.
Is Spacebar Clicker family-friendly?
Yes. Spacebar Clicker is a single-player reflex test with no chat, no user-generated content, and no in-game purchases. It works well as a quick break or a lighthearted way to compare scores with friends.
Rules and scoring
How presses, timing, CPS, and holding the key down work.
How do I play Spacebar Clicker?
Pick a test length (5, 10, 30, 60, or 100 seconds), then press the spacebar. Your first press starts the timer automatically. Keep pressing until time runs out, then check your total press count and CPS against your personal best for that length.
How is CPS calculated?
CPS (clicks per second) is your total press count divided by the test length in seconds. A score of 65 presses on the 10-second test is 6.5 CPS. The same 65 presses on a 5-second test would be 13 CPS — that is why comparing scores only makes sense between runs of the same length.
Does holding the spacebar down count as multiple presses?
No. Browsers fire repeated keydown events while a key is held, but Spacebar Clicker ignores those auto-repeat events. Only a genuine press-and-release counts, so holding the key down will not inflate your score.
When does the timer start?
The countdown starts the moment you make your first press, not when you choose a test length. That means you can take your time getting your hand ready before you start pressing.
What are the controls for Spacebar Clicker?
On a keyboard, press the spacebar. On a touchscreen, tap the large on-screen key. The M key toggles sound on and off at any time.
Strategy and test lengths
How to press faster, and how the 5s/10s/30s/60s/100s tests differ.
How do I get a higher CPS?
Alternate two fingers instead of pounding with one, keep your wrist relaxed rather than locked, and rest your palm on the desk for stability. On longer tests (60s, 100s), pace yourself instead of sprinting — fatigue drops your average more than a slower, steady rhythm does. See the tips page for a full breakdown.
What test length should I use?
The 10-second test is the standard length most spacebar clicker scores are compared on. Use 5 seconds to measure pure burst speed, and 30, 60, or 100 seconds to test endurance and pacing. Full details are on the modes page.
What is jitter clicking?
Jitter clicking (or jitter pressing) is a fast, small vibration of the wrist that lets your finger bounce off the key at a very high rate. It can produce impressive short bursts on a 5-second test but is hard to sustain, so it tends to fade quickly on 30-second-plus tests where a steady rhythm wins out.
What is a good spacebar clicker score?
On the 10-second test, most casual players land somewhere between 4 and 7 CPS. Regular players using two-finger alternation often reach 8-10 CPS, and competitive jitter or butterfly technique can push short bursts higher. Scores naturally trend lower on longer tests as fatigue sets in.
Why is my score lower on the 60-second test than the 10-second test?
That is expected and happens to almost everyone. Short tests measure burst speed before fatigue kicks in; longer tests measure how well you can sustain a rhythm. A lower average CPS on a 60-second run compared to a 10-second run usually just means your hand tired out, not that you did something wrong.
Devices, saving, and accounts
Mobile play, browsers, local progress, apps, and why a run might disappear.
Does Spacebar Clicker save my progress?
Yes. Your best score and best CPS for each test length, plus your total lifetime presses, are saved locally in your own browser. Nothing is sent to a server, and there is no account or login. Because the save lives on the device, a different phone, a new browser profile, or cleared site data will look like a fresh start.
Can I play Spacebar Clicker on mobile?
Yes. On a touchscreen without a physical keyboard, a large on-screen button appears in place of the spacebar — tap it as fast as you can. Scoring and the timer work identically to using a real spacebar.
Can I play Spacebar Clicker offline?
Spacebar Clicker is a browser game and needs a connection to load the page the first time. After that, some browsers may keep the tab responsive without a network connection, but there is no dedicated offline app or install package.
Is there a Spacebar Clicker app?
No official app is required — the game is the website. You can bookmark it or add the tab to your phone’s home screen if your browser supports that, but you still play in the browser. We do not sell a separate iOS or Android build.
Do I need an account to play?
No. There is no sign-up, no email gate, and no profile. Your best scores stay in this browser on this device. The tradeoff is that we cannot restore a run on a new device for you, since nothing is stored on our servers.
How do I reset my Spacebar Clicker progress?
Open Stats from the game menu, tap Reset progress, then confirm with the second tap. That clears best scores, best CPS, and total presses for every test length on this browser. It cannot be undone.
Why did my progress disappear?
Local saves are lost if you clear cookies or site data for spacebarclicker.app, switch browsers, use a private window that has since closed, or open the game on a different device. Some privacy tools and OS "lite" modes also wipe local storage. Because the save never left your browser, we cannot recover it from our side.
What browsers does Spacebar Clicker work on?
Any current browser with JavaScript support: Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari on desktop, plus their mobile counterparts. If presses do not register, try updating the browser, disabling a strict script blocker for this site, and reloading.
Still have a question?
Anything not listed here follows the same loop: press fast, do not hold the key, and compare scores only within the same test length. For who publishes the game, privacy of local saves, or a bug report, use About Us. Legal details are on Privacy and Terms.
